On July 8th 2017 Jayne led a Private Members Motion debate in the General Synod for the Church of England, which successfully led to the Synod publicly condemning Conversion Therapy and calling on Her Majesty’s Government to ban it.
The full agreed text of the amended motion is set out in the ensuring Church of England press release. Given there was a vote by houses, the final voting results have also been made publicly available.
Given the interest in the science supporting the debate, Prof Michael King and Prof Robert Song wrote a supporting ‘Science and Sexuality’ briefing note which was circulated to all Synod members along with a link to speeches from leading scientists, who had addressed a Synod fringe meeting in February 2017 (which Jayne had organised) on the subject of Science of Sexuality.
